  1. Really nice production on your video, Jason - loved hearing the celebration at the end! Great footage of the cars in paddock too. This was my best TO run (43.257s) - tried my best to make our police officer friend Brian car sick while riding shotgun šŸ˜

  2. Huge thanks to everyone for dealing with a somewhat challenging day with grace and kindness, all the Chiefs rocked it and all the drivers/workers did their part as well to put on a great day of racing!! Here's my 44.747, 3rd run Group B still pretty damp. Super fun course...

  3. Hey Everyone, Judah was working hard this week on pics at the track. We have a few thousand pics to go through and scrub the blurry stuff out of. Hopefully, by the end of the week, I'll post up a Dropbox link. Some track and pit shots are to be included. The sunrise colors on Sunday were pretty spectacular. Here are a few he got of my car. Judah is getting better and even had his first paid photo shoot recently. The roller was from that shoot. He is working on saving for more photo gear and is willing to do a shoot for $50 if anyone is interested.

  4. The Phoenix AZ Solo Region winds down their Spring 2023 series this Saturday April 15th with some very close competition for championships in several classes. Hereā€™s a look at some of the tighter battles. Novice class had 36 drivers compete in the series and itā€™s come down to 2 for the title, David Alter with 2869 points sits in 1st and Ronald Herren right behind with 2846 points. The Sportsman class of all the top drivers of the Region is very tight with 21 drivers total and 9 drivers with at least 3 events under their belts. Jason Bucki 2971, Matt Underhill 2962, Bruce Hansen 2925, Brian Peters 2916, Ron Bistrais 2916, Jay Balducci 2882, David Webb 2877, Dave Bahl 2798, Scott Urich 2780 All but Bruce are entered in this last event, so look for some tight racing in this class on Saturday. CAM-C has 2 drivers in a battle for first, Trevor Drake 2818 and Patrick Sullivan right behind with 2790. Our largest and closest battled class is CAM-T with 15 drivers having at least 3 events under their belts by the end of Saturday. Lance Hamilton 2938, Mike Hitt 2931, Mat Leon 2879, Chris Hall 2854, Michael Jakubowski 2775, Juan Leal 2770, Erik Gagnon 2710, Donny Lofstrom 2687, Sean Fowler 2685, Amanda Hitt 2649, James Wolter 2543 Most of these drivers are running in Group B on Saturday, look for a lot of math to be done in between runs for drivers to see where they currently stand. DS is another well attended class with 6 drivers having at least 3 events in. Morgan Lee has a strong hold on first with 3,000 points, but will be missing this event. Steve Ashcraft is in 2nd with 2834 points but will likely also miss this event. Tanner Nolen is in 3rd with 2812, Chris Simons 2789, Mat Penny 2754, and Danielle Simons 2644 points. Drops will likely determine the final finishing order in this class. FS has 3 drivers in the hunt, Craig Borger 2989, James Harris 2931 and Dan Hawrylkiw with 1996 in just 2 events. This one will be tight once Dan gets his 3rd event in Saturday. STS has 3 drivers in the hunt as well, Brent McCune 2978, Jorge Rios 2927 and Kevin Rasmussen 2919. And lastly XP, John Harvell leasd with 2965 and is right behind with Jason Jarvie 2952. Good luck to all of the drivers in each of your classes and thanks to all for supporting our spring series so well. https://www.azsolo.com/results/

  5. Great course this weekend. It was very challenging in my beast. We set a goal to try and get into the 49 second range and made it on our last TO run. We were pretty excited. Canā€™t wait for January.

  9. Great Vids! Thanks to everyone who helped put the event on, this was my first event participating. Great track layout and really enjoyed it! Sorry if I forget anyone's name who I met I'm horrible with names. I was running group A and working Group C but I managed to grab some photos of Group B. I'll upload a link to the gallery on my website for viewing and then a link for anyone who wants to download the photos. I'll be updating it as I get through the photos, I took a ton so taking my time a bit. Thanks again for the great event and cant wait for January. 10. Files are now all uploaded! The new camera body is amazing, resolution and detail are superb but file size is 30mgb+ per image sometimes! Two changes, I can no longer do the free image (13 hours of work plus gas and food adds up), but...If you buy any images I will send you a free one! Second If you buy 5 images or more I will discount the rate to $10 each but you need to contact me so I can set the gallery up, smugmug has not got this feature unlike other platforms. I have added file numbers to all the images this time around for identification. I can also offer high quality prints and prints on metal, ask me for details. Hope to have a sample table set up at the next round. Morning Session Images Afternoon Session Images If anyone has any issues please reach out phil@veitchcreative.com

  12. I'm starting to get a handle on my new GoPro Hero 10, the over exposure issue is fixed. Still can't seem to get my tablet to overlay my Solostorm data on the videos from the new camera though. That said, here was my first run of the day Sunday which was also my fastest with a 49.423. LOVE the new Bridgestone RE71RSs...this car hasn't driven like this in over 3 years. Now I just have to get back to trusting it once again to not push.

  13. Great Event as always, aside from the temps. Whew. The boys and I did get a few good pictures, some track pics, and some of the event. I decided to include all the pics this time, even some from the neighboring motorcycle event. We were testing out a new prime lens on the Sony so some of the shots are zoomed out pretty far. I'm asking the same thing as last time. If you like a pic head over to my Youtube channel and like a video as a thanks. @DrivingForwardBuilds 10/15/23 Event Photos Here was one of the good ones.

  14. We were out taking a bunch of pictures at the event. We don't know what we're doing but trying as part of our Homeschool routine. We wound up with a few good shots from each run group A-D and a few shots around the paddock. Feel free to download and use them as you wish. All I ask is if you like a pic hit my YouTube channel and drop a "like" on any video, it really helps. If you're feeling especially kind, a comment is awesome too. @DrivingForwardBuilds I should have my run video out this week sometime as well. If you don't see any of your car in the pictures, let me know. We have 725 we took! This folder is just the ones we thought turned out ok. My Boys wound up taking most of them. šŸ™‚ This was one of our favorite shots by my older son, JJ. Link to Pictures...

  18. Great job everyone getting this event in considering the wet conditions. Special kudos to equipment setup, waiver and tech staff that did the majority of their work in a soaking rain. You all ROCK!! Event Chairs were great being flexible with the conditions and it looked like we were on track to be done on time even with 5 runs each during Comp Groups. Very impressive!! Here was my 49.355, the GoPro didn't record my 49.158 fast lap. And just for fun, here was Juan trying to learn how to drive my car, in the wet, having never even sat in the driver's seat before. He did fantastic!!

  31. I think Ben's reply comes from a long grueling weekend of a handful of volunteers busting their arse to make sure the rest of us have a good time. Many MANY of us went above and beyond this weekend and overall there was a great result behind it. Don't let that hide that fact that we are tired and we have yet another event to put on in very short order this Friday. If we do not get more volunteers to step up, you are going to see some of the regular VOLUNTEERS drop...then instead of worrying about details like above, you'll be worrying about who is going to get everyone registered, teched, waivered, gridded, started, not too mention having a course to run on at all. One does not need experience to volunteer, one just needs a willingness. We'll teach you the rest. Thanks, Lance

  32. Almost every other region and club in the country requires numbers. Static cling, magnet, vinyl, painter's tape, paper. This isn't some unreasonable requirement. Also to your other point about numbers being hard to read from the tent... that's not the point. The point is for corner radio workers to be able to see the number and call the cone by number rather than "gray miata - no the other gray miata".

  34. Really challenging and rewarding Sunday course. That opening slalom was surprisingly tough with the awkward entry - super fun the couple of times I set it up right. I also found the final walloms tough to execute - only got that sequence right on a handful of runs. My best day 2 run:

  39. It was for sure interesting, especially the first slippy run. Autocrossing in the wet isn't something I'd want to do often, but it was something different to mix things up.. though run group A got to experience it the best šŸ˜„ I really liked the course and would be curious how it would be with a dry and clean skidpad! Here's my fastest run (48.894):

  40. Great job on the video Jason and reaching your target time. This is the only digital evidence I have of the event...but it doesn't show just how much we all enjoyed the course, the event and especially the comradery with our fellow competitors during all aspects of the day and the banquet after. It was awesome!

  41. Phoenix AZ Solo Region Steering Committee Meeting Minutes August 11, 2022 Present: Lance H., Kei J., Morgan L., Matt U., Mat L., C. Borger, Kevin V., Faith H., Kim K., Chris G., Ben Z., Brian M., Nick S., Chris S., Steve E., Bill P., J. Rios (visitor) 1. Region Update: 183 members as of the meeting. National SCCA has conference call for small regions that Kim attended. Said it could be greatly improved because it was not really focused on small regionā€™s needs. We should provide feedback. 2. Finances: Region income $2660. Overall total $2700 in the black this year so far. No money from tire rack so far. Tire rack only sends money once a threshold is passed. Need to find ways to increase traffic with those deals. 3. Equipment: Cones easy to get. SCCA national tried to work on deal with company in Wisconsin. Shipping is expensive. Would save if we could have a dock. Nick Sloanā€™s company has a dock that maybe we could use. Ben Z will count what we have and buy approximately 50% that many. We think that about half the cones need to be replaced. Found an adjustable table that goes up to 37ā€ height. Found chairs of various heights. Need to actually go check to see if that table and compatible chairs Ben Z found will fit. Kim will ask AMP for fence height. Coordinate with Timing and Scoring before buying. Reg and timing and scoring will decide what sort of ez up they want, and if they want it. Our existing ez up may be missing. Need to find it. Lance says 10x20 ez up is best. Need to make sure we get adequate weights. 4. Off duty police for fall series: Law Enforcement Specialists is under contract, but they will not recruit a specific officer for us until after Sept. 1. Brian has a backup company that is $5 per hour more and will schedule a person right away. Kevin says we should stick with the plan. If they donā€™t show up, we can switch after that. But company seems to be very reliable and well regarded, so they should work. 5. Plans for September event: Lance plans to keep doing early reg and preferred positions for key workers. Will continue to not do onsite reg. Lance will send a reminder email about format. Schedule will be as we had presented in previous meetings. Want to get food vendor. Could use Morganā€™s Australian meat pie food truck, or Patā€™s hot dogs. Morgan will ask his co-owners. Chiefs checking on their teams to be sure the event will run smoothly. Will Underhill be back? Yes. He says he will. Need to add disclaimer to driverā€™s meeting about timing and scoring for TOs. Time goes with car, timing will not pay attention to car swapping. Timing quality may be lower quality than for comp runs. 6. November two day event plans: Proposal to do a 2 day event a'la ā€œtwo days of awesomeā€. Run like a national event. 2nd day would count for our points series. But would also calculate a two day score for people who participate in both days. Vote to do this with Bucki and Lee as co chairs. Unanimous yes. 7. Goody Store: Payment system set up for goodie store. Placed a test order to be sure everything comes through properly. Will be ready to turn on once that is verified. Will put thread on SC forum once it's ready to decide how to proceed with items and pricing. 8. MLK weekend track event: Jan 15 Sunday regular event, Jan 16 MLK day for track event. Have run events on road course before. Nick says he will do the course map, but would like to have an example if the previous map could be found. Kenny M. said he would consider being the event chair if Lance would help. Elliot has old course design map. Elliot will send it. 9. New sites update: Brian looking into airports for summer events but also tried local airports. None worked. Also have calls into other facilities but no response yet. Maybe Honeywell in northern phoenix. 10. Awards and banquet: Shirts for fall 21, flashlights for spring 22. Will send quotes to Steve to buy since everyone was OK with it. Banquet after December event. Club will pay for peopleā€™s food and NA beverages. People responsible for their own booze. Try to arrange limited menu or fixed price per person. Lance will look into setting up registration for banquet for RSVP, and to offer tickets for guests at cost. CG will set up details. 11. Plans for spring series format: After 2nd November event, we will ask people what their opinion is on split session (am/pm) vs all day event format. Both in person at event and as a poll on the forum for actual club members. But also need to factor in what we think so that the events run best. Should decide at next SC meeting. Which should be Dec 1 so that we can have 3 events (one two day) before we decide. Vote to decide at next meeting passed unanimously. 12. Summer 2023 event up north: White mountain lake airport for summer event. $1k per day, $1k damage deposit. Need portapotties or need to rent pilotā€™s club for $200 more. Dates? June or July for good weather. Two day event? SC is interested. Brian and Steve will look into this more. 13. Chief of Course updates: Nick says he will continue to be Chief of course through this series. Bill P. will be assistant for now. Nick wants to get Bill up to speed first. Nick wants to revisit at next meeting. 14. The next SC meeting will be Thursday December 1. Other business: Nick suggested people have shirts that people who help run the event wear to events to novices know who to talk to. Everyone but one person voted yes so weā€™ll try it. Morgan will design a shirt and get it made through the goodie store.

  42. This driver just couldn't pull his head out and put together a decent run yesterday. The punitive elements directly after the sharp turns just didn't fit my car or driving style I guess. Still had a great time and CAM-T had an epic battle with the top 4 spots separated by about 4 tenths of a second. My camera didn't record my 50.486 run but here's my 50.7xx last run. Best part was, 2nd event in a row the car drove back home under it's own power!!

  43. Fun course but we really struggled with rear grip Saturday, both on and off throttle. Spins, cones, and lots of counter steeringā€¦ Made for an entertaining drive but unfortunately not as quick as weā€™d like. Best I could do was this 37.807:

  44. Here is my 4th and fastest run, a 40.381. Data from that and my fifth run showed the car had at least a low 39 in it if it just had a decent driver. Loved the course and loved even more that I was able to complete all laps and drive my car back home again in one piece again finally.

  46. My son and I had a great time on Sunday being back at the track, we are not used to this heat yet (WA is a little on the cooler side) but we managed to stick it out until the end of the day. This was my first time shooting autocross and I must admit I'm not used to all those cones! I agreed to give one free image to competitors so if you can give me your car details etc I will get a free image to you. The rest are up on my site and are available to purchase if you so wish. I hope to be back out again for the next round..fingers crossed. https://veitchcreative.smugmug.com/Car-Racing/SCCA-Solo/ I can also produce 19"x13" high quality prints if anyone is interested....Thanks!!
