  1. On October 4, 2021 the SCCA Board of Directors met, discussed, and approved the formation of Phoenix AZ Solo Region to conduct events in Maricopa County, AZ which has been ceded by Arizona Region for this purpose. Per SCCA Bylaws and Operations Manual the Region has been provided a Provisional Charter. More information will be forthcoming from the SCCA on this. In addition, we will be providing more information on how to join and support this new region. Communication channels will include this forum, our website, drivers meetings, email, Pylon Press and social media. For the reasons behind this change and the efforts to get us to this point are available in this forum post, August 2021 SC Meeting Minutes and the Phoenix AZ Solo Region Formation Announcement in the News section of the website. Many thanks to Kim Kemper, Chris Groppi and Steve Eymann for all the time and legwork that they have put into this process.

  2. A big thanks to Lance for all his work handling both online registration and working Tech at the events. Registration can be a tough assignment as you have to deal with people who are sometimes disappointed that cannot get their run group preference, work preference or the like.

  3. Just a note to explain how MSR’s waitlist system works and how it pertains to you when your registration has been waitlisted for any reason. First, let’s look at why your registration may be waitlisted. During registration, if you choose a run group that has already had the maximum number of drivers register for, your entry will go on the waitlist. If you choose a work assignment that has already had the maximum number of workers register for, your entry will also go on the waitlist. Once your registration goes on the waitlist, only an Organizer of the event can move your registration off of the waitlist. If you go back in and edit the registration, the changes will be saved, but you will remain on the waitlist until an Organizer moves it manually. You can completely cancel the registration and start over, but you will lose your place in line if you do. Entries on the waitlist are sorted by the initial registration date and time and are dealt with in order, first come first served. Typically what an Organizer will do is review each entry on the waitlist to determine why it was waitlisted, then contact the entrant via email to give options to move the entry off of the waitlist. These options typically are moving to a different run group or possibly just a change of work assignment. If an entry is placed on the waitlist just because of an oversold work assignment, MSR will save a place in the run group for that driver. An organizer can then adjust the work assignment to one that is available and enter the driver in the preferred run group. Work assignments with limits include Starter, Grid, Announcer and Observers, Course is unlimited. Other work assignments are those essential to make sure the event runs smooth such as Course Setup, Equipment Setup, Registration, Tech, Timing and Scoring, Solo Safety Stewards and Waivers. Drivers that volunteer to regularly work these essential types of work assignments are given the opportunity for pre-registration which can mean run group preference and avoiding the 8 pm Friday evening rush to get registered. If any driver is interested in volunteering to work these types of essential work assignments regularly, please get in touch with the Chiefs of said groups. Staffing the events ahead of registration opening makes the entire event run more smoothly which ultimately means more runs for everyone. If you have any questions, just ask away. Hopefully this helps to explain the process a bit better and avoid confusion.

  4. A couple of changes that you need to be aware. First, after the Sept event, we started to explore options to increase the amount of time that cars can be on track and thus more runs. One option that AMP only agreed with yesterday was allowing us to do course set up on Friday before the Oct event. In keeping with that change, the schedule of activities for the day has also been revised. You may also notice the absence of sound testing as AMP has another track event the same day. Like last month our tech folks in agreement with the AMP crew will make the decision to let cars run provisionally. As a note, the vast majority of stock cars will pass sound. New Schedule 6:00 am Gates open only for Setup, Waiver, SSS, Etc. 6:30 am Gates Open for drivers and guests 6:45 am Registration opens 6:45 am Tech opens 7:00 am Course open for walking 7:15 am Novice Course Walk 7:35 am Registration and Tech close 7:45 am Course closed for walking 7:55 am Driver's Meeting 8:10 am First car off 11:30 am Morning Session ends 12:00 pm Gates open for afternoon session, Registration and Tech open 12:40 pm Registration and Tech close 12:45 pm Driver's meeting 1:00 pm First car off for afternoon session 4:00 pm End of event This change is only for the Oct event, after the event we will determine whether it was successful and if this can be an option for events that we can gain access to the skidpad the day before a future event.

  5. When we walked the course initially, my first thought was some sections would be super fast...when in fact (at least in the multiple high horsepower cars I drove) we never even got close to the rev limiters. I think what this showed is the lighter more nimble cars could carry more corner speed prior to the straights and therefore were faster in the straights, whereas the larger cars could not...therefore entered the straights slower and didn't get up to the higher speeds. I think this really helped to even the playing field for all and was one of the best parts about the course overall. That and the easy to follow, very little cone carnage\DNF issues encountered. More like this please Nick!! Awesome job.

  7. Are spectators permitted at the October 23,24th Marana auto cross? If so does one need a weekend or full scca membership? Are there time r place restrictions for spectators. I watched an auto cross at the Marana Airport a few years ago and it was most enjoyable. Thank you, Todd

  8. There's a new facility going up West of Casa Grande. Atessa is supposed to be a darn near utopian facility for auto enthusiasts. Might be an option for the long haul since they are zoned for auto competition according to their internet propaganda.

  9. Are we still keeping an eye open for additional sites? I know we spoke to Mesa PD around 10 years ago.. Have we talked with them since? 15 acres and no 'sea of reflectors' like in Taylor. 😲 Mesa PD's upgraded training site.

  10. Has anyone contacted Phoenix Raceway? They have three lots separated by roads (not sure if they are publicly accessible) that equates to a much larger lot than AMP. The lots are called Cactus 2, Suite Parking, and Arizona 3. https://www.google.com/maps/place/33°22'18.6"N+112°19'00.5"W/@33.3718103,-112.3183619,915m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d33.3718282!4d-112.3167955 Thanks, Nick

  11. Hmm, I reckon "If ever" might just be a matter of time since Dan never made it a secret that AMP was not originally intended to be a "forever" thing. Then again, only Dan himself knows what he will do and when. Last weekend arriving from the West, I sorta wondered what's going in on the giant plot on the West side of AMP with all the earth moving equipment. Google maps doesn't update often enough to show it yet. I really can't imagine a nicer autocross site than AMP. Well, maybe ultra grippy weathered WW2 concrete without frost heaves would do it==but not much of that available anywhere anymore. To your question: Same day events might be multiple SCCA regions, NASA, or marque clubs. Its amazing to me if all there is to Marque clubs in the Phoenix area is just PCA. At Marina airport in CA, we used to have BMW, Corvette, Golden Gate Lotus, SCCA, American Autocross Series, PCA ,Lockheed Mart ,and one other club whose name I don't remember ALL running separate events. It was being used almost every single weekend of the year.- sometimes, one club on Sat and and the other on Sunday. It was nice and smooth, didn't generate much of its own dust, but wasn't fabulous grip concrete. Grip was no better than AMP- possibly not even as good. Owned by the City of Marina and they decided to sell it off for homesites or something. Anyway, if one wants to cruise around on Google maps, there are probably more and more large lots with no parking stops or light poles at abandoned factory or warehouse sites around Phoenix. I'd start on the West side just off the big I-10 truck route curve

  12. Post up videos here. I’m including my video from September as well that I was able to do a split screen. The in car footage from yesterday got corrupted somehow so no split screen. The September video has both my fast run and also a run that Lance took in my car after he unfortunately broke.

  13. Launched it with traction control on cause I'm an idiot and could never connect the middle section. I think I got fooled by the old tire wear markings and only walked the course once. 16 mx5 STR , 50.6 sec

  15. Rough day of shooting yesterday, super harsh light, shadows, messy backgrounds and haze, plus the course was difficult to shoot. On the plus side the black and white looks cool! As as last time, you can claim your free image, screen shot the one you would like and fire me an email at phil@veitchcreative.com and I will get it to you. We left a little early, the sun was getting to me but with nearly 2000 images, so should be something of everyone! https://veitchcreative.smugmug.com/Car-Racing/SCCA-Solo-Round-Two/

  17. Hi Chris, while we try to give everyone the run group they want, sometimes we do have to move people for various reasons (a group fills up, worker coverage, etc). Come see me at the reg table in thr morning and if a spot becomes available to move one of you we can look at that.

  23. To send a message via the forum click on the mail icon on the top right and select "compose new". Chris, are you driving a 2013 VW Beetle in this event? There is also someone registered as a guest. Regarding the signature line, having something that indicates who you are is either a rule of the forum or is supposed to be. Can be your first name, last name and in your forum name or your signature. The intent is that these forums support in person activities and we want people to be able to connect the real life person to the on line person.

  24. And many of us have learned that when Registration opens that the screen must be refreshed to show that it has opened. It will not refresh on it's own. That cost me 30 seconds.........😥😉

  26. To add a Signature line (please everyone do this so we get to know you), click on your name in the upper right corner, account settings, and then to the left is "Signature". Add it there. First and last name, and any other details.....cars, classing, etc. Any questions? Thanks.

  28. Well I can’t figure out how to direct message in this forum, but @JBucki, I helped out on timing for group B last time, I’d like to make a mainstay in that group. I am. Missing the November event unfortunately. But glad to do it. When I register, I put Other. In for timing

  30. Nick, I trust your not designing courses for your own gain, and yes it was meant as a bit of a joke. Mostly it was a bit of a swipe at myself for not learning to down shift properly, leaving me hunting for a gear while coasting around track. So, there maybe some Tesla envy on my part as well. In all seriousness, I really liked the course and your designs.
