1. Just a friendly reminder for everyone to check their profile information (mainly contact info) on your MSR profile.  The only way we can contact you through MSR with registration information is through your contact info there, if it's incorrect...you may miss out on getting into an event from the waitlist...

Also remember when filling out your Speedwaiver, use the exact same name as is on your MSR registration please...

Thanks and see you all tomorrow...

2. Just an update on registrations for the Jan 17 event.

Currently there is one open spot left in Group A and one open spot left in Group C, Groups B and D are sold out.  There are 4 people on the waitlist for Group B.

Please remember to print out, sign and bring with you the AMP waiver sheet and the Annual tech sheet if you are an SCCA member.  Annual tech saves all of us time and makes the mornings go much smoother, please consider it.

Also, please remember to use the exact same name on your Speedwaiver entry that you used for Motorsportsreg.com.

Thanks,

Lance

I wanted to run my Corvette Grand Sport in the Super Street R class and I didn't see it on the pull down list of classes so I picked Super Street Modified which I didn't want to run in that class. Is SSR is super secret class or it just was inadvertently overlooked? Any chance that SSR can be added or was that class already listed and I just couldn't see it.

I don't see SSR listed Kenny, I'll check tomorrow to see if I can get it available as an option.

4. Registration for the AZ Solo Autocross Spring 2021 Series Event 1 opens at 8 pm this evening.

• Only pre-registered drivers will be allowed on site.  This means no spectators or guests!
• There will be no onsite registration for this event.
• A and B groups will run in the morning, C and D will run in the afternoon.  If you are in C or D group, you can not show up on site till noon.  You will be turned away if you show up before then.  Gate open at 630 am for morning run groups.
• We will not be providing loaner helmets, you must bring your own Snell approved helmet with a 2010 or newer rating.
• Water will not be provided on site, so please plan accordingly to bring your own.
• There will be no food vendors on site, so please plan accordingly

5. Under powered you say?  😄

Here is a friend's Corvair that I've raced against several times.  Its bad fast...

Good to hear Charlie Clark's name mentioned also.  He is who I had put the roll bar in my car about 5 years ago and is still a fixture at autocross events in the Midwest.  He was so excited in 2014 the first time we ran CAM class at Nationals in Lincoln.  Said it reminded him of the early CP days...

I did update Solostorm and while it seemed promising in testing, it failed me at the event I recently attended in terms of triggering my GoPro Black 3.   I will say though that it stayed connected to the GPS now, whereas in the past it did not.   Hoping to get this worked out so we can share data at the events.

If Solostorm still captured logs of your runs, you can either upload those to cloud and/or download ours to compare.   Mat, James and I have all uploaded our fastest runs to the cloud and compared them.  You can search for them pretty easily by event name and date.  If any questions just ask.

This is my first AutoX event. I attended the Test N Tune session last month to get the car sorted. However I was not able to attend the following day. This was my last and best run of the day. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

For just being your first timed event that was not that bad at all.  Shortening up distance traveled by being tighter on the cones is the most glaring thing I see and it really wasn't that bad.  Getting up closer to the edge of grip by carrying more speed would also help.  Not bad at all though, nice work.

Caught a cone in the slalom on this run but it was my fastest scratch time and best executed run everywhere else (41.173 +1). We were also on the new RT660s and so far have been impressed. Fast, flowy, fun course - look forward to doing it again in January!

It is so interesting to me to watch how much steering input you have to use and how much the front tires protest...while at the same time still going so fast.  My car is so different...  If I tightened it up that much for the sweepers, it just wouldn't turn at all in the slaloms.  Nice driving though and I learned a few spots where I could have picked some time up for sure.

One of my runs in the Monte Carlo =D I was about 2 seconds off Lance's time, it doen't seem natural for a car that big to move like that! I might have to look into that data logger setup though, that's pretty cool!

After hitting the very first cone on your first run, you adapted to the largeness pretty quickly.  😄  I liked seeing a smile on your face when you came in from runs, that's the best part for me.

Solostorm is pretty cool for sure. Now I just need to get better at reviewing data between runs to see where to pick time up instead of later in the day at home on the couch.

10. Had a lot of fun at the event and was a super fast fun flowing course by Nick.  Weather was perfect as well as were the brand new RT660s on my car.

Here was my 44.127 on my third run.  Car probably had another 1-1.5 seconds in it, but the driver apparently didn't.

Can't wait to start the new series in January...

Post up your own vids if you have one...

Now one thing that you may have noticed is that I haven't said anything about line choice, car control, or even where someone like Sid or Lance was looking in the videos that they posted. Fun fact, I won't while on this topic. This topic is all about the idea of practice with purpose, that is where the detailed recollection comes in. SOOO, lets get into the post that Sid is quoted in as an example. His 2 items were carrying too much speed and getting on the throttle too early. Now I am not going to say he is right or wrong in his analysis, because it doesn't matter if he can't recall what he did and where it was on course. This is where practicing with purpose comes in to play. Since there is another AMP event coming up, it's time to get a game plan. At Sid's next event, he should do his course walks with the intent on finding a section or two that can facilitate that practice with purpose.

Thank you for all of the advice Matt.  Playing things back in my head after a run is something I do regularly, especially if I know I'm off the pace and trying to figure out why.  What I am not very good at is figuring out if I'm off the pace on my own without looking at other's times.

I can tell if I have the car up near the edge of grip or if I've missed a corner or an element pretty well...but what I missed the last two events is just how far the grip level of my tires had fallen off.  I generally have to do things a bit differently with my car than most autocrossers to set a good time and when it is suffering in one form or another, it's just not going to happen no matter what I do.

I'll have new skins on before the next event, just ordered a fresh set of RT660s.  I'll also be giving more attention to traveling the shortest distance possible vs solely worrying about car position based on what I learned when comparing Mat's data to my own at GGs.  I knew I was taking a wide arc in spots there, but had imagined it was helping me setup for the straights better.  The data showed me that I was loosing a ton of time by doing that.  Going back and watching a bunch of videos of other fast drivers on the same course confirmed this as well.

Lance, what GPS and camera are you using with Solostorm?     I have tried two different GPS, including the recommended Q-Starz and have a lot of connection issues.     Doesn't work with GoPro 3 Black either.    That said, I didnt do the update that recently came out, but if I could get good data like you are getting I will do that.

So I run a Hero 3 and a Samsung Tab A tablet, but separately.  I gave up trying to get Solostorm to control a GoPro a while ago.  It's just easier for me to integrate the GoPro MP4 video into Solostorm afterwards.  The latest Solostorm update makes this import function MUCH easier than before.  I think James Wolter is using Solostorm to control his Hero 8 directly though, so he may chime in.

13. So I learned a pretty important lesson this past weekend about distance traveled and related elapsed time and I thought I'd share it with the class.  Mat Leon and I both ran GoodGuys Autocross and we both were data logging with Solostorm.  Yesterday we shared logs with each other and did some comparing.  The two logs compared below are my 42.3xx I ran on Friday and Mat's 42.4xx he ran on Sunday I believe, same course.   Please disregard the total elapsed times on the logs as they are incorrect, I think we have our start and stop triggers configured differently.  What is more important are the individual sector data points.

Here is sector 2 right after the start, notice they are pretty close between us on just about everything.

Screenshot_20201123-154039_SoloStorm.jpg

Sector 3 shows Mat traveled 7 feet less with both of us averaging 28.6ish mph...and he picked up 0.25 seconds on me.

Screenshot_20201123-154045_SoloStorm.jpg

Sector 4 was pretty similar as was sector 5.

Screenshot_20201123-154049_SoloStorm.jpg

Screenshot_20201123-154102_SoloStorm.jpg

Sector 6 got pretty interesting though.  Lance traveled 27 feet less and gained 3 tenths of a second.

Screenshot_20201123-154116_SoloStorm.jpg

Sector 7 was a huge jump though.  Mat traveled 47 feet less distance at roughly the same average speed and picked up 1.271 seconds on me!!

Screenshot_20201123-154121_SoloStorm.jpg

I returned the favor in sector 8 though.  33 feet less and picked up 0.973 seconds.

Screenshot_20201123-154129_SoloStorm.jpg

Then he gained back in sector 9 by traveling another 33 feet less and picking up 0.622 seconds.

Screenshot_20201123-154134_SoloStorm.jpg

I haven't done the math yet...but just imagine the time we would have saved if one of us had hit all of those sectors as tight as each of us did separately!  I'm guessing what, 4 seconds quicker at least.  No wonder we were so far behind some similar cars...  I always knew distance traveled was important but this really brought it to light to me.  Hopefully this helps some others in this area as well.  I know I'll concentrate much harder in the future on limiting the distance traveled while on course.

Hopefully this also shows some just how helpful data logging can be, anyone running Solostorm can upload logs for others than ran the same course to download so they can compare and learn from as well.
