  1. I think Ben's reply comes from a long grueling weekend of a handful of volunteers busting their arse to make sure the rest of us have a good time.  Many MANY of us went above and beyond this weekend and overall there was a great result behind it.  Don't let that hide that fact that we are tired and we have yet another event to put on in very short order this Friday.

If we do not get more volunteers to step up, you are going to see some of the regular VOLUNTEERS drop...then instead of worrying about details like above, you'll be worrying about who is going to get everyone registered, teched, waivered, gridded, started, not too mention having a course to run on at all.

One does not need experience to volunteer, one just needs a willingness.  We'll teach you the rest.

    Thanks,

    Lance

  2. I'm starting to get a handle on my new GoPro Hero 10, the over exposure issue is fixed.  Still can't seem to get my tablet to overlay my Solostorm data on the videos from the new camera though.

That said, here was my first run of the day Sunday which was also my fastest with a 49.423.  LOVE the new Bridgestone RE71RSs...this car hasn't driven like this in over 3 years.  Now I just have to get back to trusting it once again to not push.

  3. I have experienced optional slaloms where one direction .ight benefit one driving style or car choice and the direction might favor a different driving style or car.  Not always the case for sure but so etimes it's more about what is comfortable vs what may be considered the faster line.

Hey David, email me at phoenixazsolo@gmail.com and I'll put you on the list of potential instructors.  We are in the midst of the gathering stage right now.

We can still give grid spots in check-in as always. It can be set up so nothing is changed other than an additional column in MSR/timing with driver class and number. Numbers on the car just helps with penalty calls. If assigned grid spots are helpful, there's nothing requiring that to change.

I will double check with Jason Bucki but I believe the test he did with our setup last year was just as you describe. Everything stays the same just adding a car # column to the registration.

I also agree that adding car #s won't help or fix anything at all if we also do not correct the radio, course worker, or T&S tent noise issues which can all be done without adding the additional work of adding car #s.

I'll try to get the number of new drivers we had at the last event before the meeting tomorrow night, but I know this...it's a LOT.  It's a good thing to have so many new people joining the Region and attending our events but at the same time it also means they need a bit of time to get up to speed with how our events run.

An unintended consequence of Registration gridding cars by class in each group (which I've been doing the past couple of events) is that all of the CS Miatas are now on course at the same time.  I like gridding the cars by class as it puts drivers in and around the other drivers in their class both for fairness and bench racing chatter between runs...curious how many others have realized this was happening and do you like it or don't care either way?

  6. For a while registration assigned "Corner Captains" who were more experienced racers and were in charge of the radio and cone calls for each station per run Group as a way to clean up the radio chatter and more accurately report cone calls.  I personally liked the idea but there was pushback so eventually we stopped that practice.  Maybe time to rethink that?

We've also extensively discussed going to large #s on cars in the past and once the details of what all would have to be changed with our systems to accomplish this, the decision was made by the steering committee to not go that direction.  One may think it is simple fix for one issue, but in reality it changes just about everything we do with our registration and timing & scoring systems and then on top of that requires everyone to now put tape or magnetic #s on their cars every event...correctly.

In my opinion, the current system works very well for us.  We just need to be better and course work, clean up the radio chatter and remind people to stay away from timing and scoring area.

  7. Hello All,

Because this is a special one off event on a Friday (Veterans Day, November 10th) and being on the Road Course at Arizona Motorsports Park, we are opening registration earlier than we normally would Wednesday Sept 13 at 8:00 pm MST.

    http://msreg.com/VeteransDayAutocrossonthetrack

    About this event

This event will an be autocross held on the Road Course at Arizona Motorsports Park.  Because of the larger layout of the course and increased speeds, there will be some special requirements for entry.  But there will also be some special fun to be had!!

A driver must have participated in at least 3 Phoenix AZ Solo Region Autocross events in the past 12 months in order to register for this event.  If you have not entered the minimum required PASR events but have participated in other SCCA autocrosses in other Regions, proof of those results will need to be submitted with your entry for the Solo Safety Steward's approval.

The schedule will also be a bit different.  As the course will be almost 2 miles long, there will be no course walks...however each run group will get one parade lap before competition laps begin.

No go-karts, Ariel Atoms, and open wheel vehicles including but not limited to exoskeleton, Polaris, formula, etc. will be permitted to run at this event.

Registration will be limited to 105 drivers to make sure we all get as many runs as we can get and that all of the worker spots will be covered.  Entry fee is $40.00 and a lunch will be provided for all registered drivers.

Don't miss out on the chance to stretch your autocross legs on a longer faster course for something different.  If there are any questions about this event, you can reach out to Lance at phoenixazsolo@gmail.com or Event Chair Ken Mitchell at nokones@kenmitchell.com

    Thanks,

    Lance

  8. Guests are limited to 2 per driver (45 total max) and they must register in advance on Motorsportsreg using their own profile.

Riders have to sign a membership form and a waiver I believe and wear a special wristband.

I'd say if they want to attend, get 2 of them registered ASAP and we'll work the rest out later.

Very sad news, but I know Cruz was always very busy.

So better news is that Discount Tire now owns Tire Rack, so they should have access to all the same tires now, and same prices too…..I would think.

That said, The Lift Shop should be able to also have better access to our “200 UTQG” tires. That’s a guess.

I recently went round and round with Discount trying to get me some tires that Discount "didn't stock" but could get from Tire Rack.

Final verdict was the Store manager at my local Discount Tire failed miserably and I ended up just ordering them from Tire Rack direct.  It seems like they are still two separate companies with issues to work out between themselves as far as holding hands.

  10. On May 7, 2023 at 4:00 pm, Phoenix AZ Solo Region will be hosting an awards banquet for the 2022 Fall Series at Ground Control Craft Food & Drink, 4860 N Litchfield Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340.

The Region will provide the Food and Non Alcoholic drinks and will present awards from the Fall 2022 series.

Beer and other alcoholic drinks will be the responsibility of each person on their own.

We are using this event on MSR for people to RSVP and pay for the banquet so that we can give the restaurant an accurate head count prior to the event.  Registration opens at 8:00 pm MST this evening.  Admission to the Banquet for PASR members is $5 each and all non-members and guests of members $20 each, which is our cost.

  11. The Phoenix AZ Solo Region winds down their Spring 2023 series this Saturday April 15th with some very close competition for championships in several classes.  Here’s a look at some of the tighter battles.

Novice class had 36 drivers compete in the series and it’s come down to 2 for the title, David Alter with 2869 points sits in 1st and Ronald Herren right behind with 2846 points.

The Sportsman class of all the top drivers of the Region is very tight with 21 drivers total and 9 drivers with at least 3 events under their belts.

Jason Bucki 2971, Matt Underhill 2962, Bruce Hansen 2925, Brian Peters 2916, Ron Bistrais 2916, Jay Balducci 2882, David Webb 2877, Dave Bahl 2798, Scott Urich 2780

All but Bruce are entered in this last event, so look for some tight racing in this class on Saturday.

CAM-C has 2 drivers in a battle for first, Trevor Drake 2818 and Patrick Sullivan right behind with 2790.

Our largest and closest battled class is CAM-T with 15 drivers having at least 3 events under their belts by the end of Saturday.

Lance Hamilton 2938, Mike Hitt  2931, Mat Leon 2879, Chris Hall 2854, Michael Jakubowski 2775, Juan Leal 2770, Erik Gagnon 2710, Donny Lofstrom 2687, Sean Fowler 2685, Amanda Hitt 2649, James Wolter 2543

Most of these drivers are running in Group B on Saturday, look for a lot of math to be done in between runs for drivers to see where they currently stand.

DS is another well attended class with 6 drivers having at least 3 events in.

Morgan Lee has a strong hold on first with 3,000 points, but will be missing this event. Steve Ashcraft is in 2nd with 2834 points but will likely also miss this event.  Tanner Nolen is in 3rd with 2812, Chris Simons 2789, Mat Penny 2754, and Danielle Simons 2644 points.  Drops will likely determine the final finishing order in this class.

FS has 3 drivers in the hunt, Craig Borger 2989, James Harris 2931 and Dan Hawrylkiw with 1996 in just 2 events.  This one will be tight once Dan gets his 3rd event in Saturday.

STS has 3 drivers in the hunt as well, Brent McCune 2978, Jorge Rios 2927 and Kevin Rasmussen 2919.

And lastly XP, John Harvell leasd with 2965 and is right behind with Jason Jarvie 2952.

Good luck to all of the drivers in each of your classes and thanks to all for supporting our spring series so well.

  12. Hello Racers,

I have finished assigning Grid #s and work assignments for Event #4 on April 15.

Please review your registration info on the Attendee page and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I think I spread all of the co-driven cars out far enough but please double check.

    https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.status/uidEvent/396DBC46-DD38-C637-4159C14943766C76

We have a very full event once again with over 30 people on the waitlist to get in so please...if you do not think you will make this event cancel as early as you can so we can confirm others on the waitlist to get in.

And remember, if you have guests that intend on coming that are not on the confirmed guest list on the attendee page, they will not be allowed to come onsite.  Registration will be checking in drivers and guests right after waivers check in and turning away anyone not on the attendee list.

    Thanks,
    Lance

He comes out of the San Tan Valley so can have somewhat of a hefty trip charge to the NW Valley unless you can schedule it when he is already coming to somewhere near you.

Regarding #7 about improving the waitlist, I recall sometimes when I try to register, and the Group I ask for is full, I go to the waitlist. In limbo. So I have to email Lance to get released from Waitlist Jail. I’m just stuck.

And, becomes very awkward because I am confused about how to then register my wife, Glenda. What if we can’t later get the same Group, once I get unstuck?

What I’d really like to have happen is get tossed back out with a message like “That Group is full, please select another”.

    Is that possible, please?

If I made that change Scott, nobody would get waitlisted...  Basically I can turn the option to waitlist on or off.  What happens to you when you describe the above is the group you chose has an open spot when you chose it, but someone else took it before you finished checking out.  There isn't much I can do about that when 80-100 people are all trying to register at the same time.  What I have thought about doing is lowering the available slots from 35 to say 30 drivers per group initially.  This would make groups fill up and sell out faster, but it would leave me some leeway to make adjustments to registrations to clean up issues like you mention such as co-drivers not getting in the same group.  I did this a little bit for the March events because we wanted to give preference to those that were trying to register for both days and it worked okay, but was way more work for me on this end.  Really, I think I've been pretty good about working out getting co-drivers switched around post registration and I think I'd rather handle that after the fact vs trying to come up with a way to prevent it beforehand.

Another remedy is you can cancel your waitlisted registration and start over by choosing another group.
