  1. There was a course back at Exponent Failure Analysis that had a hairpin to the left (like ~22°). I had a 2000 Mercury Cougar (car I started autocrossing with) and it had no ABS, and the flatspots from my panic braking made the long drive home interesting. I've never driven a car that liked downshifting back to 1st, but I'm all for unique courses! For the option slaloms, some have an obvious trade off and some *seem* like there's only 1 good path. There would be times I'd be a course worker and see someone fly through the "wrong" path and have a much faster time than me. So I think option slaloms are neat because there can be subtle course and route details that I keep having to think about and test out.
  2. Ah, sorry... I misunderstood! I thought you were asking for your Mazda3. It does seem like many have gone for a simple single wishbone setup. Alternatively it looks like Mercedes has gone the opposite and has a very many point suspension. I can't remember many details of the '85 Z-28 I worked on as a kid, but I know my 2000 Ford SVT Contour had front suspension just like our C1 chassis cars. So I didn't think much of it when I started working on my Focus. It would be nice if manufacturers at least provided slotted top mounts for camber though! Similar to Eric's Taurus story, I know at least 1 Contour guy had drilled out the spot welds for the strut tower cap and welded in a proper aftermarket camber/caster top from a different platform.
  3. Hi Scott, a late reply but I think option "A" would be your only option in H Street. I still included the other options in case I was misinterpreting the rulebook wording, which both would alter the suspension geometry. A) According to Ford's workshop manual you might be able to gain up to -0.5 camber from available slop in the top and bottom mounts: B) Powerflex sells a camber offset bushing replacement for the front bushing on the front lower control arm to gain -0.5 camber. C) Ground Control makes a camber adjustable top hat that fits OE diameter springs. I was able to get -2.0 camber with just these and the springs were a hair from contacting the strut tower. Hope that helps! And if you do try both adjustments in option "A", please let me know how that works out as I've been curious.
  4. Has anyone worked with a machine shop that's good with aluminum (material removal and welding) that they'd like to suggest? I was about to start calling random places, but figured I'd check here first.
  5. I believe the car would go into limp mode, or at least AWD-off. Some guys have disabled abs by using a secondary abs module for the ecu to control (nothing else connected to it), but I think they were ice racing and the nannies added to the abs were worse for them. It sounds like abs can more simply be disabled by starting the car with all 4 wheels off the ground too, and some additional steps. I think what triggers it is going right from full throttle to full brakes. I hadn't encountered this before, so I probably just need to be less aggressive when initially braking.
  6. That was an interesting course, and I wish I had signed up for TO's! There were many quick sections, but used the skidpad well for a longer course. It at least seemed longer. I've been working on pushing my comfort level, staying on the gas longer and braking later, but I need to work on smoothing out that gas -> brake transition. For the first time, I triggered the assisted panic brake "safety" feature... during my 3rd (other video below) and 4th runs, both of which caused me to take out cones. I had previously read many stories of other RS owners (I'm not sure if ST's are similarly affected) encountering it while autocrossing or at the track. Even though I was off the brakes and back on the gas so I could power around the corner, the car thought it would be better to keep the brakes locked up and ignore driver inputs. This nanny can't be disabled or defeated, so I'll need more seat time next season to find the limits of when it engages and how to avoid it. Run #2, my fastest clean run (48.681): Run #3:
  7. Gah, I see the email now. Thanks!
  8. Was there any notice about this event? I'm not seeing anything in the forums about it, and I didn't get an email like I have been for prior events. I only now just checked, because I assumed signup was tomorrow night.
  9. Is anyone logging the temp data from their TPMS sensors... for those that have that sensor and it's accessible?
  10. That was really fast and fun! In November I got new tires that were 1 size larger (wider and taller), hoping that would help keep me from shifting into 3rd... since the courses had been really fast. All the courses since then had slowed down and were more technical, so I finally got a chance to see if they would help. Looking at my videos, I could have kept it in 2nd... though I did keep shifting to 3rd. My main struggle is trying to stay/get on the throttle. I would carry a lot of speed into the corners and the front would just understeer, unless I gave it gas... which then worked great! It just seems counter-intuitive to accelerate in a corner that I already don't have traction to make the turn, so it's been a mental struggle. I would be a horrible F1 driver 😄 Here's my fastest clean run (42.257)
  11. Citroen's CEO recently said that the trend of super heavy EV's had to shift soon to get those cars lighter, so less batteries are needed, so they're lighter, so less batteries are needed... etc. Also reminds me of some F1 team a while ago saying they were going to start making road cars because they thought everyone was doing them wrong. Adding tons of weight for crumple zones and other safety stuff, and that team said the cars could be safer and much lighter using things they've done in F1. It doesn't seem like anything came of that though, since most gas cars have continued to get even heavier.
  12. I think it could be helpful if that field defaulted to "Open", and you can alternately select "SPM". I remember what to do now, but I kept having to look that up the first few times I registered. From what I recall, it defaults to an empty field, and I think that will also place you in "Open", so it's a little confusing.
  13. Barney sounds like anger on wheels... I love to hear him! Juan's close call with the final cone was awesome!
  14. It was for sure interesting, especially the first slippy run. Autocrossing in the wet isn't something I'd want to do often, but it was something different to mix things up.. though run group A got to experience it the best 😄 I really liked the course and would be curious how it would be with a dry and clean skidpad! Here's my fastest run (48.894):
  15. I was wondering what peoples thoughts were about that, with the goal of trying to even out the wear as much as possible on the street. I have been running higher pressure to get more wear on the center, to help reduce the load on the inner tire. Or would lower pressure be better to help relax the inner sidewall to even out the wear? Network Alignment suggested a little toe-in, so I've also been trying that. What's everyone else doing with their daily driven autocross cars that have higher negative camber?
  16. Has there been any thought about having a youtube account for the region, that could at least manage playlists for all the videos for each event? I thought that would be a really cool way to watch all the videos, as well as having regional representation on that platform.
  17. Hi Lance, I don't know about anyone else, but your long link doesn't show anything for me.
  18. Very cool video Jason! The course was fun and challenging. Some of my runs that I thought were going to be slow were fast, and visa versa. I'll be spending a lot of time watching my videos... and everyone else's, to figure it out.
  19. Right after last month's event, I got new tires and decided to go with taller tires. I was hoping that might keep me from bouncing off my 2nd gear rev limiter or shifting to 3rd. I wasn't prepared for this old school / traditional autocross course! I was struggling yesterday, but in a good way of being forced to think differently. I was initially trying to figure out where I could put the throttle down, then I realized I should be trying to carry more cruising speed through all the turning bits. With cold and new tires, this caused many brown pants moments, but my daughter in the passenger seat was thoroughly entertained! If there's a library of prior course maps, there was one from around 2003-2004 that I still remember, that was different. Near the start, it had a carousel that was essentially a 270* clockwise corner where the entrance and exit crossed paths. Something like that one would be entertaining to do again!
  20. My first run took out the last cone before the exit... I have the scuff mark and video proof of it too 😞 It was my slowest time, so it doesn't change anything. I just wanted to mention it to ensure there was proper awareness for the suffering that cones endure.
  21. Thanks Lance! I wasn't sure if it was limited because of the max occupancy of the place, but all the verbiage was plural. Paid for and done!
  22. Hi Kim, are we capped at inviting a single guest? If there's a way to add 2 guests, I couldn't figure it out.

Thanks for all the help! I'll send him a message here and see... he might get an email that he was PM'd. I deleted my facebook account many years ago, so that's not an option.

Hi Chris, thanks for that suggestion! I'm not sure what Ted's username is on the forums though, and it doesn't look like he's been to the last 2 events.
  25. That was a fun course. My clutch started to loose interest after the launch, but luckily it grabbed soon after. No cones though!
