scotturich Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Couldn’t find this car in any rule books. Only goes up 2021 which is the old car. Quote
civil Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Searched and found the same issue. Sounds like a letter needs to be sent in. 1 Quote
smeyers Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) So, by Rule Nationally up to SS? But by local common sense, in the meantime it’s of that same general “D Street Family”, until SCCA clarifies. Unless there is something significantly better or super-duper about this model. Sorry, I don’t speak “BMW”. Nowhere close to fluent.😉😬 —————————————- PS: Found this…. Useful? The 2022+ 230i uses a 255-hp turbocharged inline-four that's shared with the Toyota Supra 2.0. (Isn’t that C Street?) Edited February 13 by smeyers 1 Quote
jw1 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 With the M2 being classed in BS, and CS for Miata like cars, and FS for pony cars, I would think DS would be the landing spot in light of any hard ruling. Quote
scotturich Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 That’s what I kind of thought especially with the old one being in DS as well but I sent in a letter I’ll the SCCA sort it out. Quote

OVR Member Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Hey there! I'm an Ohio Valley Region member. Before coming across this thread, I too submitted a letter to the SCCA to get the 2022+ 230i classed. I was surprised the smallest current BMW hadn't already been classed, having been on the market for 3 years. Only being available in automatic probably has something to do with it... @scotturich , are you planning to campaign a 230i for an entire season locally? Do you plan to compete nationally? Do you expect the platform to be at all competitive? What size tires do you plan to run, if you don't mind sharing? Only having had the car for a week or so, body roll seems to me like something that will need sorted out. So probably a front bar sooner than later. Other than that, I plan on putting some 245/40s on the front and 265/35s Bridgestones on the rear, and that's about it. It'll be my main autox car for the foreseeable future, so hopefully it doesn't suck, lol. Quote
scotturich Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 No I thought about buying one but to be honest I’m not interested in being the test for it. The car seems to have all the things needed though. I did submit another letter that street board has right now so hopefully it gets classed and people can start trying the platform out. Quote

Bummer, I was hoping there was going to be another person making a run with the platform. I guess I'll be the test subject. I did get a message back from the SCCA saying that my letter has worked its way to the Solo Events Board. Quote
scotturich Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 I’m most likely buying a Twin but the 230i was high on my list until I figured out it wasn’t classed. It will be exciting to see what someone can do with it. Quote
Mark111R Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I did a year in D-Stock (pre-street tire days) with a 2011 135i. If the new car is anything like that, you want the biggest front bar you can find. I think if someone wrote a letter, it would be a quick in for D-Street, with the "M"240i in FStreet. But nothing will happen until you write in. 1 Quote
