New Format for Fall Series

Hope the summer treated everyone well…  Who is ready to get back to racing?

I’m sending this email a bit earlier than usual because I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice of the changes in the way our Phoenix AZ Solo Region events will be run this fall series.  We are going back to the full day event format we ran for years before the current split day format. 

What this means is every driver will need to be onsite, through Waivers, check in at Registration, through Tech (if no 2022 annual tech sticker), and present at the driver’s meeting before the start of Group A runs.  There will be no later Check in or Tech available once Group A starts.

There will still be 4 normal timed run Groups A, B, C, and D and there will also be two extras optional “Time Only” ("TO") run Groups E and F, each group will be capped at 35 drivers.  The TO groups will cost an extra $15 per entry and you will be required to work one group to run the other (E works for F, F works for E). 

Registering for the TO runs not only gets the driver extra runs, but it also affords the time to let someone else drive your car, you hop in someone else’s car, have an instructor ride with you, etc…all in the name of helping everyone get better at autocross (and have more fun). TOs do not count toward your competition time for the day and as there may be reduced staffing in timing and observers during TOs, those times may or may not be reported in our final results.

The Run\Work groups will be:  

Run Group A will work Group C

Run Group B will work Group D

Run Group C will work Group A

Run Group D will work Group B

Run Group E will work Group F

Run Group F will work Group E

The day’s schedule will look like this:

6:00 am Gates open only for Setup, Waiver, SSS, Etc.

6:30 am Gates Open for drivers and guests

6:30 am Registration opens

6:30 am Tech opens

7:00 am Course open for walking 

7:30 am Novice Course Walk

7:35 am Registration and Tech close

7:45 am Course closed for walking 

7:55 am Driver's Meeting 

8:15 am First car off

Estimated 4 runs per group:

08:15 Group A start

09:20 Group A end

09:35 Group B start

10:40 Group B end

10:55 Group C start

12:00 Group C end

12:15 Group D start

13:20 Group D End

TOs Groups:

13:35 Group E Start

14:40 Group E End

14:55 Group F start

16:00 Group F end

As you can see, for those that prefer to only be onsite for a half day…you can sign up to run Group A\Work Group C or Work A\Run C and be all done by noon. 

We will allow drivers to invite guests (capped at 50 total) and the driver will be responsible for getting the speedwaiver links to their invited guests. 

The first event with this new format is on Sat Sept 17.  Early Registration for Phoenix AZ Solo Region members will open on Wednesday August 31 at 8:00 pm, registration for everyone else will open Friday Sept 2 at 8 pm.

If you have any questions about this event, please reply and ask ahead of time.  We are excited for those of you that are new and have never participated in a full day event before to see how much fun this can be.  Having a run group off between driving and working to get your car ready, socialize, eat lunch, bench race, or just take a nap is great and having the ability to get extra instruction, swap keys, swap drivers and just get more runs in at the end of the day is just an added bonus. We are exploring having a lunch vendor on site, more details to follow. 

I’ll send another reminder out before registration opens, hopefully this gives everyone a good idea of what to expect though.

at present AMP does not have a track event scheduled for that day so it is possible we will have a sound check

just a note we will have Patrick the BBQ guy serving lunch from 11-1  $10 for a bbq sandwich, chips and a drink (cash only)
