  1. Fantastic course, great elements, good sweepers. Apologies in advance for the rotated view. Taken using TrackAddict & iPhone. Fastest time was 46.4xx. Top speed was recorded at 63.6mph recorded at the finish, fastest on course was 61.8mph with left / right G's recorded at 1.24 / 1.30 respectively.

Any recommendations on cameras for recording runs? Seems like a good way to help figure out where I can improve.

I keep it simple and download the TrackAddict freeware (which holds 3 videos and slew of data), use the phone camera, and a Ram Mount X-Grip w/suction mount. This can be had for about $50-$70. I mount just to the left of the windshield.

Mostly I track G-ratings (lateral, acceleration, braking, and acceleration) top speed & %’s braking across the runs.

You can get real serious and integrate with improved GPS systems, OBDII scanners, Go-Pro Cameras, iPads, SoloStorm or pay for service on the TrackAddict which can run you several hundred dollars or more. The trick is to have a secure mount to assure non shaky videos.

  3. Really enjoyed the course, it was quite enjoyable to mash the skinny pedal for as long as possible over many sections of the course.

A few data points captured by the free TrackAddict program showed I hit a top speed of 62.3MPH with Left & Right peak G-Forces of 1.32 and 1.31 respectively. 45% of the course was accelerating, 28% braking, 23% steady state turn, and 4% coasting. Phone based GPS was accurate to 5.0m, so some variation in accuracy is present.

The other variable with AMP is there is a hard cap of 200 on their complex. If we propose 200 attendees on the skidpad that effectively means AMP cannot rent out the road course. I would guess they will require us to rent the entire facility to make up for that loss of revenue, which would be substantially greater than the rent we pay for only the skidpad.

Now that's an idea... rent out the entire space. For example; Group A = Morning Skidpad, Afternoon AutoXtrack, Group B = Morning AutoXtrack and Afternoon Skidpad. We'd max out at 200 each event. Charge $80 per driver which equates to $16,000 in revenue and make registration fees non-refundable. Everyone into a registration pool random assignment of run groups. Now all we need are additional volunteers to run both the track & skidpad.

  5. Aren't newer Tesla's SS or ASP per the ruleset? Am I reading that right?

    Tesla Motors (SS)
    -Model 3 (all) (2018-21)
    -Model S, all-wheel drive (2014-2021)
    -Model Y (all) (2020-21)
    -Roadster (all) (2008-13)

Tesla Model 3 *Limited Prep* (ASP)

I AM jealous of 480HP, and even more so of 1111HP or even the measly 993HP, but even more so the immediate torque.

Having a physical scoreboard located between an active grid and next to timing is a poor location from a safety perspective. Having drivers with their helmets on walking through the active path for cars to get to start is to be avoided. Jason will determine the appropriate fixes on the live scoring issues.

Agreed. Also, many instances the announcer and timing staff use the scoreboard as a reference which is usually blocked by helmets. Additionally it’s difficult to “social distance” when everyone is huddled around the board to see the scores.

I think Todd has a really good point with the crossover between AM/PM groups. We could setup something where registration and tech open while B group is running, so registration would close at like noon or so. Then everyone for the PM group could start a course walk almost as soon as the B group is done running, though there will need to be a little car human herding because I think there will be more cars and people in motion on site than we usually see. It might even be possible to have the PM drivers meeting before the course walk. That would probably ensure 5 runs.

These very issues addressing efficiency, cost, # of runs, # of entrants, and site layout all while following any site restrictions are being discussed by the SC.

I do enjoy the AM/PM format as does my family. For the April event we were also able to accommodate 5 runs per group which is a good value of travel time - on site time   :  # of runs.

I am looking forward to the time when one can stay onsite for the duration to watch others compete and to do a bit more socializing and bring friends / family out to watch.

I’d also like to gauge interest in having an entire weekend dedicated to AutoX. Other regions have a practice Saturday and Competition on Sunday. I suspect the cost will be a bit higher on Sat. than Sunday due to lower # of participants, however, we’ll never know without an inquiry.

  8. Longacre makes good quality products. Toeplates make life much easier.

FWIW; Firestone, for $189, will give you lifetime alignment checks as long as the alignment components are stock. I’ve told them to max out camber and given custom other settings and they’ve never pushed back.

When I added camber plates to the Corvette Firestone would no longer make adjustments, but I could still have the toe settings adjusted and they’d give print outs to confirm any changes I made.

There was no limit to the number of checks / changes within a given timeframe, within reason of course.

  9. Two drivers were comparing A052’s and RT660’s on the same vehicle, switching between runs and were within a 1/10th a second of one another on Saturday.

Anecdotally the A052’s are rumored to degrade after about 30-40 runs but can be flipped to increase tire use by 40-50%.

I have no anecdotal information on longevity or performance degradation timeframes of the RT660’s.

I put on a new set of 660’s for Saturday and they reminded me of the peak grip levels of the RE71’s with the recoverability of the Rivals. I really liked them.

My 2c for whatever that’s worth.

    PS; Have you tried Discount-Tire-Direct?

The current format certainly keeps events efficient, however assuming the worst is behind us with Covid do you want to continue turning members away? I come from a very large region where entries were anywhere from 150-200 pretty regularly, and we always finished by 4-5 PM while sill allowing 4-5 runs. In fact we used a similar format of AM-PM groups so that you didn't need to commit to a full day.

I'm not sure how many people are getting waitlisted in the current format, but it seems like not more than 20 or so...so even with 150 entrants I don't see why we couldn't offer the same 4-runs we get now. One of the negatives of the Covid-modified structure is not allowing afternoon entrants on site before noon, this potentially pushes back the afternoon start time. If you set up registration at a different location from the timing area, folks running in the afternoon could arrive by say 11:00 and be teched and registered so that they could do course walks immediately after the AM groups end and start back up sooner.

Just some thoughts, but I personally feel limiting entries to 100 and turning people away is not ideal.

I agree with Jeff in most ways. Years ago we evolved into an AM/PM structure, for different reasons, but efficiency was foremost. It helped those who could not dedicate the entire day to an autocross, and the split day thus allowed us to handle quite a few entries. Of course, we were at the old Firebird/Wild Horse skidpad, and in that day it was limited to three runs timed (smaller courses), with paid TO's.

I'd like to suggest sticking with the AM/PM arrangement, but figure out a good ratio for numbers and costs and such. Don't ever want loaner helmets to return (IMO), but do want the option of allowing friends and family. Like that. I also believe it's safe enough to go back to paper waiver forms.

    All I got. Discuss.

Minimum five runs, AM/PM sessions, $35 entry fees, there’s a starting goal, let’s figure out a way to make it happen. I’m no fan of only four runs. We hit six runs a few times in this new format by starting at 8:30AM and I’d like to have six runs per group again.

The split sessions seems to be well received by those I talk to and offers much improved flexibility for scheduling so I look forward to this continuing.

I need to be wise during the next event if there are any discernible impediments to increased run counts.

What is the exact link to the results for the January 17 event? When I go to azsolo.com I keep getting redirected to a backup which is from last year. It still says the next event is may 2020 and the latest resulted are from fall 2020. Thanks.

Timing & Scoring will post up on the new forum when results are completed for the Jan 17th event.

I would like to change my registration entry for the Competition Group from Sportsman/PAX to Open for CAM-S. I was unable to find the "Edit Feature/ Option on my Dashboard.

Ben - Are you going to run in the Open for CAM-S?

When you find the edit button, let me know too!

So, were the run group sizes limited due to Covid-19 restrictions; or because of the tons of motorcycle people sharing the facility? Not complaining, just curious.

If it wasn’t for the social distancing aspect and lack of interaction between the two sessions, that was a fantastic format! I really enjoyed the smaller run groups and the short duration between runs.

Hats off to the Chiefs and crew to do so well, the event went very smooth!

  14. What is the minimum number of entrants required to have an afternoon event to cover the necessary positions? Should the afternoon event come up shy, will morning session participants be shuffled to the afternoon to cover? We’re at 70 now, and probably climbing, but just wondering. Thanks
