Well, AMP obviously cant do evening events with all of their restrictions. So another venue would need to be found. And the setup crew for evening events always experienced working in the hottest time of the day.
So in my mind the early morning approach always made the most sense. Everyone involved were exposed to the most tolerable conditions. Anything is better than……nothing.
I'm fine with that as well.

You pose an interesting question there Banner.
If you are driving into work or to a store, you can still practice looking ahead to where you want to go. We all should be looking ahead on the road anyway but bad habits are easy to form. The more tricky thing with autocross is fine adjustment of your line is done with your peripheral vision.
If you are looking for more seat time and have a little bit of money to spend, Octane raceway is an option. Karts don’t translate into car driving techniques very cleanly, but getting comfortable pushing harder without making mistakes will translate. I’m talking about systemically pushing a little harder into a turn, or carrying a little more apex speed. Looking a little further ahead at slow pinched corners (more important than looking ahead on fast corners lap time wise).
The way I have stayed sharp is mostly studying my previous runs. I save all of them and watch them section by section. There is some good reeding on this and other things at Beyond Seat Time https://www.beyondseattime.com
Hope that helps a little.
Thank you, I recently subscribed to Beyond Seat Time, very well worth it IMO. I too spend time studying my previous runs and breaking them down by section. 🙂
I had not thought about karts though, that may be a good alternative.

Yes, almost five months between events is a problem.
Parking lot rogue friskiness in your car or similar would invite negative attention in many ways. Not recommended.
Ken shared some alternative suggestions above, much better solution.
Finally, the best solution, would be to do as Tucson and Sierra Vista (limited due to fire crews on site) do is hold abbreviated summer events here that start early and end early to beat the end of the day “brutal” heat. Courses a little shorter and simpler to streamline setup.
We (AZ Region) successfully held a four event series every summer *for over thirty years*. Sometimes evening events under lights at Firebird Skidpad #4 that drew over 150 entrants, as well as early morning to 1:00’ish events that also were well attended.
All we need is a committed summer crew that wants to bring that back and make it happen. I suspect there is still the interest. Do I see your hand raised?😉
I'm definitely in if there would be enough interest in bringing it back. 🙋♂️
An evening would be a ton of fun too.

Las Vegas and AZ Border Regions hold events through the summer months. I believe Las Vegas has an event next weekend and AZ Border has an event on the 23rd at Marana.
Thank you! I plan on attending at least one out two Tucson events.

What do you do to stay sharp during the summer months? Does anyone do any practicing in say a parking lot or private grounds?

Kim, thank you very much for sending that out. I have created an Excel Sheet based off of the information that you supplied via email, this makes it a bit easier on the eyes. I tried to get everything as accurate as possible. Feel free to Salt to taste. Enjoy!

My third run was by best run of the day with a 46.809. I really enjoyed this course, it was a lot of fun! I'm starting to feel a bit more comfortable driving the car.

There's alot of folks from AZ in roster that did really well! Congratulations to all of them!
-
Awesome! Thank you both!
-
For sure. So does that mean that the times run after aren't recorded anywhere?

Gotcha, thank you!

I've been trying to access it for the last hour and I'm getting a blank page. Anybody else having the same issue?

Hello Everybody,
I have a suspension question specifically for STS. My car has rear independent suspension, 2 control arms per side. I'd like to know if using rear adjustable control arms is permitted or not. I can't find anything definitive in the rules. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
This is from the latest SCCA rulebook:
STS - 14.8 Suspension
H.Camber kits (also known as camber compensators) may be installed.
These kits consist of either adjustable length arms or arm mounts (in-
cluding ball joints) that provide a lateral adjustment to the effective
length of a control arm. Alignment outside the factory specifications is
allowed. The following restrictions apply:
1. On double/unequal arm (e.g., wishbone, multi-link) suspensions,
only the upper arms OR lower arms may be modified or replaced,
but not both. Non-integral longitudinal arms that primarily control
fore/aft wheel movement (e.g., trailing arm(s) or link(s) of a multi-
link suspension) may not be replaced, changed, or modified.
2. On arm-and-strut (MacPherson/Chapman) suspensions, the lower
arms may be modified/replaced OR other methods of camber adjust-
ment as allowed by Sections 14.8.B, C, or F may be used, but NOT
both.
3. On swing or trailing arm suspensions, the main arms may not be
modified or replaced, but lateral locating links/arms may be modi-
fied or replaced.
4. Front wheel drive (FWD) cars with rear beam axles may use shims
between the rear axle and hubs.
5. The replacement arms or mounts must attach to the original standard mounting points. All bushings must meet the requirements of
Section 14.8.B. Intermediate mounting points (e.g., shock/spring
mounts) may not be moved or relocated on the arm, except as in-
cidental to the camber adjustment. The knuckle/bearing housing/
spindle assembly cannot be modified or replaced.
6. Changes in suspension geometry are not allowed except as incidental
to the effective arm length change.
Note: Many modern suspension designs known by other names, ac-
tually function as double A-arm designs. These include the rear sus-
pensions on 1988-on Honda Civic/Integra, Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge
Neon, BMW E36, and most “multi-link” and are covered by Section
14.8.H.1.Banner

I made my own string box jig (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4632013) that I use for measuring and adjusting my toe. For camber I use an angle finder along with a piece of 1" angle iron with 2 bolts going through it (leveled, top and bottom), I set the bolts on the inside lip of my wheel. My car has not caster adjustment.

I changed the alignment in the rear of the car, I added some toe out. The good news is now the car rotates, the bad news is now the driver needs to improve even more. 🤣

Looks like fun! Thank you!

Thank you. I'm not sure what a TO is. If the March event becomes a Test N Tune, I'll definitely look into finding someone to give me some pointers.

Great videos everybody. One of the things that I now see that I need to work on is entry speed into the corners. I was looking at the first corner (labeled #1 on the course map), I went into that turn way to slowly compared to everyone else. Looking back at it now, I thought I was carry a decent amount of speed. This is actually something that has been challenging for me. What's the best way to learn and understand your vehicles maximum grip?

From the Club Supplementals......the entire Novice definition and specifics. I’m sure there are other questions about being a Novice.
And yes, you can upgrade to any regular Class at any time. No one HAS to run Novice.😉
Thank you for the clarification. I just wasn't sure when was the correct time to transition from the Novice class into the class that I intend to run. Thanks again!

This is my second event and my final run with a 51.746. Any pointers or suggestions are always very much appreciated.

Great driving Lance, that car looks like so much fun to drive!
