    Morning Everyone!

So this last even I got my annual tech submitted. In that check in the tech told me I could now make and display my numbers on my car and skip tech.

Anyone able to walk me through that? I am still kinda new to regular events and not even sure where to find "My Numbers". If I find that and the section in the rule book on displaying numbers I will get some made ASAP.

    Thanks Everyone!

Unless you plan on running at national events, vinyl/magnetic numbers are not needed for the local stuff here.

  2. Not true. The course is setup following the course design as best as possible within the given boundaries. It is then adjusted to appease safety above all else before preferred line, which is often why setup takes longer as safety stewards find things here and there that aren't always apparent on the gridded course map.

  3. A052s will probably last longer on that STX car with camber vs the GTI with no/weak camber, so not really an apples to apples comparison. The A052s will also likely will wear into oblivion on the GTI before the Toyobaru does.

I'll be testing the RT660s this weekend and hopefully get a synopsis on how they compare to the Rival 1.5S's and the RE71Rs on a FWD with some decent camber. My guess is they will probably wear like the RE71R's, but I'm hoping they can handle a bit of over driving like the Rivals and A052s.

  4. I would have to agree with you Jeff. For those that have recently joined our region, in prior times our old model would often overwhelm the system and would limit the amount of runs people would get (for folks that dont know AMP has a no earlier than 8am run start or something to that nature, and a no later than 430pm finish time if I remember correctly but correct me if I'm wrong). Add the 220 + entrants, then add a timing issue here and there, some DNFs, reruns, etc, all of which of course adds time. Time that we have only so much of at this particular site. Which leads to the weak 3 runs max (I'm well aware of national tours only having 3 runs per day, but the masses usually aren't too happy with 3 runs for a 1 day local event).

I would like to open up the events, but I think the region might have to look at some of these learnings from the modified CV19 structure, and find some way to implement it moving forward when they do decide to open back up.

  5. Selling a set of 4 255/40/17 Bridgestone RE71Rs that I ran on my STH prepped Focus ST. The tires have fairly even wear and have roughly about 4.5 to 5/32's of tread left.

$150 picked up in Gilbert, or I can bring them to the next event in February if they are still around by then.

  6. I still think the SEB will class it as a DS car because currently nothing AWD in GS has anything close to that power level except for the skinny body WRX which barely makes over 200 hp.

OP, seeing as there are a few folks that may care about the local plastic trophy involved or fair competition, I would probably ask the HS competition if they were ok. If it were me, DS given the info provided and looking at the cars that make up that DS with similar power/drive train and weight.

  7. For Street Touring, the power level/weight is on par with the WRX (non STI of course) MK6 golf R, Focus ST, Civic SI, Speed 3, and Audi TT which would probably make it progress into STH at some point, if the SEB compares it to those cars which do happen to be classed in STH progressing from the street category.

  8. This is a pretty good general guide, however I would still recommend folks to look at the rulebook if they are trying to venture down the right path in terms of modding for a respective class. Even in Street Touring trim, there are still specifics in the approved allowances that can still make a mod "not legal" even though it may be legal, i.e. STU and STH for example

(For 2021 it will apply to STU as it already applies to STH)

STH only: As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced induction, induction charge heat exchangers (also known as “intercool-ers” or“charge air coolers” [CACs]) are unrestricted in size and shape.
Air-to-air CACs and radiators for air-to-liquid CACs must be cooled
only by the atmosphere except for standard parts. Body panels, fascias, or structural members may not be cut or altered to facilitate CAC installation. Removal of vehicle components to facilitate installation is not allowed. Holes may be drilled for mounting. Factory boost piping may not be modified or replaced.

So in my case in STH, intercoolers are an approved allowance, however I cannot remove body panels or cut stuff to install this piece, so I would have to get a part that retains all of these panels/grill shutters even if it serves no other purpose other than being stupid.

This is a question more focused to Sid and Scott, just because they are the FWD boys here so far. We can come back to the RWD gang soon, but a lot will apply to everyone.

Just because this is a fun and never ending story, plus it's a good thread for others to look at and learn from. For both Sid and Scott, as well as other that want to jump in a little, when you review your videos (all of them) can you see where there was time that you lost? Now, after seeing your own video, can you recall more about those particular sections on those particular runs?

Now for the participation points section. From the videos that you posted, just because we can all see them, pick two things that you think could have improved your times for the day. Things that you can bring to the next event to practice. Now these two things don't have to be a corner or a particular section, they can be over arching things like line choice or even being hungry (seriously). The goal here is to focus down a lot of things to gain practice with purpose.

Yup I know exactly were I lose time each time I watch my videos. For that particular event, I wanted to make up time in the slaloms. While I was behind a bit, my runs prior to that were way off. Me, I'm slow, so I can only focus (no pun towards the shit box intended) on correcting a few errors at a time otherwise I end up in a mess of FWD drift stupidity.

Distance is a killer for me especially on that day. Not including the slalom, but the pinchy parts and slight transition over the little crest by the sound station, I should have been way closer like you and Brian were. A lot of my going wide was either due to:

a). carrying to much speed on entry

b). getting on the throttle too soon

Patience is another one of my downfalls especially at this event. For the slower portions of the course I didn't necessarily coast, but I wasn't tidy, and I didn't apply the power correctly as you can see where I push wide, or would come in too hot which would mess up my setup for the next feature.

Its a constant learning process (or in my case, a reminder of the importance of fundamentals), and consistency is one thing that I would like to improve above all else as I do have my light bulb moments were it all clicks, but more often then not I'm just a bone head.

  10. Thanks for the insight Matt. Definitely later on backsiding cones, and like Lance I ended up being conservative as I ended up coning in the slaloms both Saturday and Sunday. I'm still trying to learn more patience in some of the other course features where you often have to give up more for better return but I tend to forget some of the fundamentals in the heat of the moment.

One thing I will add though is surface temps do matter. 46 degrees ambient in A group will not produce the same results 80 degree temps from C and D.

  11. Not top 25 raw but, you are right about the slalom as it doesnt look as tight as I've normally seen you take them in some of the other videos I've seen of your runs.

For me it was some of the pinchy parts of the course that I couldnt keep it tight where I lost time. As soon as I would give it a little bit of throttle, the car would push out wide.
