Hello, thank you for indicating novices are allowed.  Are minors with a license also allowed?

    Thank you, Jay.

Here's what I said for last event:

Novices are OK for this event.

For minors to participate, there are extra waiver requirements - please contact the waiver chief at chiefwaiver@azbrscca.org for more info. You might need to get something notarized, but the waiver chief is the expert on that, not me.

The 16 year old must have a driver's license or learner's permit. If it's a learner's permit, then they must have an adult with a valid driver's license in the passenger seat for all of their runs and we would expect you to supply the adult.

We will have vaccinated instructors available but only for novices who are extremely lost and need help to know where the course goes. I want to stress that this is optional and subject to the comfort level of the novice and the instructor.

  2. We try to target about an hour per run group and usually run over slightly (reruns, worker changeover, etc.). Especially with the heat, we do not want to be running long since course workers will run out of water.

In cooler months we're ok running longer groups, like 1.5 hours.

Last event we were finishing teardown just before 2pm if I remember right, with the event wrapping up closer to 1pm. Maybe someone else remembers better than me though. I would guess A/B finished around 11:30am.

  3. Hi everyone, I'm looking for someone interested in volunteering some of their time to contribute to the website.

Currently, it's just me doing the edits - that means the website has a bus factor of 1-2, depending on whether you want to count the previous webmaster (who is out of state and not contributing to the site).

At a bare minimum, I'd like to show someone the absolute basics so that if I get hit on the head, someone else can take over and at least know how to make simple changes. Longer term, there is a possibility of taking over the webmaster role if I get tired of it, or if I decide I want to quit autocross and take up underwater basket weaving, etc. There are also some bigger projects I'd like to tackle, and I'll feel better about them if I have help with the coding, pull requests, etc.

The website runs on a fairly standard basket of web technology (HTML, PHP, Javascript, etc.). You do not need to be an expert in any of this (I'm not!). And although I'd strongly prefer someone who writes code on a professional basis, or someone who contributes code to open source projects, the bare minimum qualification is someone who:

    • knows what a for loop is and can write one it at least one coding language
    • is a self starter, good at googling things and teaching themselves stuff (because, again, I'm not actually an expert and I'm ill equipped to teach you web tech)

There is a possibility of trading website contributions in place of a work assignment at an event. If you're interested, please PM me!

Will this event be open to the Novice class as well?

Yes. For clarity here is what I posted for the last event, with some edits to account for updated policies:

    • Registration opens on Friday June 18th at 7pm
    • Online registration only, all entrants must prepay via PayPal - there will be no onsite registration or payments
    • In order to provide a good experience for everyone, the entry cap will be 100 drivers
    • Novices will be allowed
    • Spectators will be allowed, but must stay in paddock or outside the iron fence - not allowed in grid, next to the equipment truck, etc. We will expand paddock to provide more space and we ask that you continue to keep your physical distance from others not in your household
    • Masks: recommended for unvaccinated people
    • Run/work: A works for B (comp runs only), C works for D (time only runs), vice versa - if you skip time only runs you can leave early, the website now reflects this correctly

The biggest change from last event is the entry cap, we didn't think through the initial number very well last time. We ended up settling at ~100 drivers last time, one of the largest events we've ever done and we still got the event done at a very reasonable time.

That said, expect the next event to be a lot warmer and maybe even hot.

    • Thanks 1
  5. Marana now confirmed for our next event! As I've warned previously, we will try to secure the site as often as we can this year, but it will be on a month to month basis and it could go away at any time.

Everyone did a great job following the rules last month and keeping all trash secured, so thank you. Any trash or FOD we leave will make it harder to get any more dates.

If you don't know what FOD is, you need to read up on the site rulesThis is an active airport and we must strictly follow the rules in order to keep the site.

See you all in a few weeks!

    Hi All.

I am looking forward to racing tomorrow, but I appear to have listed my car in the wrong category, does it need to be changed? The latest rule book I had was a 2018 copy and it listed the saturn sky non turbo as BS but I just downloaded the latest SCCA rule book and the saturn sky non turbo is now CS.

Gareth, I moved you into CS Open.

  7. If you paid once then you're fine.

The payment page you see after registering is NOT integrated with the registration site. So you'll see that page every time no matter what. We do a manual reconciliation of the payment records after registration closes.

Something I need to work on...

  8. We have expanded the entry cap. Everyone who has registered up until this point is now in the event.

There are 11 competition-only slots remaining.

There are no time-only slots remaining. Due to software limitations, I am managing this restriction manually. If you add a new registration, please leave the TO box unchecked, or I will uncheck it for you and send Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to give you a stern lecture on the importance of following instructions.

  9. It got late for me tonight so the website does not reflect this yet, but here are the official policies.

    Run/work:
A works for C, B works for D, vice versa (Fall/Spring Marana rules - this makes for a longer event but will allow us to have more participants)

    Event schedule:
We will start at the typical time for a summer event.

    Site Open
    6:30am
    Registration & Tech Open
    7:15am
    Registration Closes
    8:00am
    Tech Closes
    8:15am
    Novice Walk
    8:15am
Mandatory Site Meeting Everyone on site for the event must attend, driving or not.
    8:30am

    Mask guidelines:
We are adopting the Pima County guidelines exactly with no additional changes.
If you are two weeks or more past your final vaccine dose, you do not need a mask. For all others, a mask is recommended.
If you are feeling a little sick, even if it is "just a cold," please do not come to the event. We will get you a refund.

    Onsite registration:
There isn't any still. You must preregister and prepay for the event using PayPal. We will not take money at the event.

Ok, just like Sierra Vista, correct?

So, again just to clarify, the website isn't up to date right now and we are not doing Sierra Vista/Musselman style run groups for this event. Final run/work coming soon.

    No. That pattern was Phoenix.

From their Website Calendar page, 1/2 way down…….Group A is timed runs first, followed by TO runs, same group of cars. Group C is similar.

    Run A Work C

    Run C Work A

    Summer Events: May - August

    Site Open
    6:30am
    Registration & Tech Open
    7:15am
    Registration Closes
    8:00am

    8:15am
    Novice Walk
    8:15am
Mandatory Site Meeting Everyone on site for the event must attend, driving or not.
    8:30am

Sorry...this is incorrect. I forgot to update the website.

The website reflects what we're currently doing at Musselman.

We are discussing doing the traditional Marana summer schedule (comp runs in A/B, TOs in C/D, A works for B, C works for D) but we are considering switching to the Marana fall/spring schedule in order to fit more entries. I will have an announcement when this is finalized.

Will minors be allowed to participate, or is that COVID restriction still in place? I have a 16 YO novice who is really looking forward to this.

  13. Reminder, registration opens tomorrow.

Because we are capping this event at total number of entries (competition + TO) instead of just the number of drivers, I had to adjust the waitlist logic. I've tested it and it appears to work ok, but if there's any problems or weirdness please post here.

If you get to the URL ending in "registered.html" I promise your entry is saved in the system.

  14. Our next event this year is scheduled for April 25th at Musselman.

    Registration opens Friday, April 16th.

As far as I know, the operating agreement between the county and Musselman continues to limit us to a max of 50 people on site, so the previous restrictions (such as no novices) are still in effect for this event.

  15. Marana is back, for a limited time only!

This is, in my opinion, the best site in AZ. If you've never been, this might be your only chance. We will try to acquire additional dates, but we promise you nothing, and at some point soon the site will be closed to us for good.

    Some important details:

    • Registration opens May 14th at 7pm
    • Online registration only, all entrants must prepay via PayPal - there will be no onsite registration or payments
    • In order to provide a good experience for everyone, the entry cap will be 160 total entries (competition + TO)
    • Novices will be allowed
    • Spectators will be allowed, but must stay in paddock or outside the iron fence - not allowed in grid, next to the equipment truck, etc. We will expand paddock to provide more space and we ask that you continue to keep your physical distance from others not in your household
    • Masks will be required, and unless specified here the remainder of our Covid supplemental rules are in effect

    Hope to see you there!

Will there be no walk through at the course before runs? I would love to come to the event but have never driven at Mussellman before. Really want to get my 1er out there, completed a couple of events back on the east coast a few years back.

There will be course walks. We generally close the course for walking shortly after the novice walk starts, see the schedule on the right hand side of the page here: https://www.azbrscca.org/autocross/calendar.html

is this event still happening? 🤞

As far as I know, yes.

  17. Hi everyone,

The board has decided to cancel the January event in response to the ongoing surge in covid cases. This is the last thing any of us want, but your health and safety are very important to us.

Please do your best to stay healthy and safe out there, and hopefully we'll see you in February when things are better.
