  1. For a long time, (over 40 years) especially for local events, we’ve always used the “raise the cone above your head” for corner workers to make sure the cone gets counted. The Solo Safety Stewards monitor the launch times between cars to ensure adequate and safe cone replacement times. This is typically 25 seconds. Plenty of time to hustle out, signal and replace the cone, and hustle back to the station. Or wave your arms in front of you signaling no penalty. The corner worker does not need timing to wave back.😉 But it visually confirms the penalty. With a very wide range of inexperience within our worker corps this is necessary. That is the corner workers job. Not someone else's. This does not need to stop, just needs to be done correctly. Very effective. The Experienced Corner Captain working the radio is an excellent idea, but more work for Lance, as he’s got to know the more experienced individuals.
  2. If we ever host a National Event, the DRIVERS must register for and then provide their own numbers. Not the Region. Same system not feasible for local events with multiple classes in multiple run groups. If that's where you were going with this.😉
  3. Maps are always posted in the Forum before each event, watch for them. I print mine and have in my car beforehand. As far as no printer in your car, I assume you have a cell phone. I’ve seen many drivers walk the course using the map brought up on their phones!👍. No printer needed.😎
  4. Lance and “Scrubnick” (?) pretty much nailed it. Seeing numbers on a car from the timing tent to the far side would be a real challenge anyway. And the logistics of maintaining all of those numbers for metal and plastic cars would likely require another full crew. And more storage. Improve the efficiency of what we already do is the easiest and most practical solution.
  5. I Observed that same Group, and a few things made it difficult to score correctly. I think numbers too problematic to facilitate (as well as the distances involved), but workers not following worker protocols made scoring tough. When working, and a car hits a cone, you run out, hold the cone over your head briefly, and then replace it (VERY important). That quite often was not happening. They would run over to the spot, shuffle stuff around, and then return to their station. Sometimes there was not even a cone call on the radio. If the cone was moved, but still in the box, replace it correctly, and do the arm wave “all clear” signal. Again, was not happening. But ESPECIALLY, a very social group gathered right behind us at the timing tent seeking shade, and you guys got loud. Hard to hear for Glenda on the radio, or us hear Glenda. There must be no one hanging out by timing. Period. Many of us care a lot about accurate scoring, and we do our best to provide that, but these two issues made that very hard, as Mark shared. Please? Thanks.😎
  6. Hey, I’m very good with Weber carbs. SU’s too. Strombergs. Consensus on the no camber for cars with strut knuckles seems to be you have to flip tires on wheels every 40-50 runs. Crap. That would suck, for sure. How can they do that to us?🤨
  7. Most of my cars have had front struts that attach with camber bolts. Except for my Mazda3’s. Real problem with front tire wear when autocrossed. So, in checking around, I’m finding more and more cars these days have front strut attachments like my Mazda3’s! The front struts fit into a large metal clamp, then tightened to hold the strut to the lower control arms. I now find many of the current top SCCA Class cars have this arrangement. VW Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST, Honda Civic Sports and SI’s 2016 and newer), and even some newer BMW’s…… So what do these guys and cars do to get front negative camber? Just suck it up and flip tires on wheels every month or two? I would think this lack of camber would diminish handling, too. Please discuss and share. I just don’t get it. Am I missing something? Thanks.
  8. Yes, convertibles are allowed. Most Miatas out there do not have roll bars, and I am not aware of any rule about helmet above windshield. But you are specifically NOT allowed to roll it over........😉. For sure against the rules. I hear it's a two second penalty.🤣 But also stay away from all fencing at AMP.🙄 Please add a signature line so we get to know who you are.👍
  9. 2006 Honda S2000 32,301 miles Arizona Car BUMP. Not much activity on this ad, too bad, there is not a better-prepared or competitive S2000 out there. Or just plain nicer. As clean as they come. This car will now be advertised Nationally via a professional broker. If anyone local is interested, I'll leave this open just in case. -------------------------------------------------------- Asking KBB Excellent Condition Private Party Price........ $36,400 or best offer. Owned and maintained by Don and Sharon Roberts Immaculate condition. Always garaged. It has Koni shocks, an Invidia N-1 exhaust, and a Don Roberts alignment. Tires on it are Bridgestone, but not the 200 UTQG ones. One notch down. Stock size. Less than 1000 miles. Any questions/offers email directly to Scott Meyers (moparaz at yahoo dot com)
  10. OK, when we bought Glenda's 2022 BRZ, these tires were on it. We have installed appropriate Bridgestones now.😉 These would be a good set of highway tires, not top autocrossing tires. For your daily driver set. They are: Four 215x40x18 high performance tires, Stock Size. (Picture one) Two used Michelin Pilot Sport with only 10,000 miles. Picture two) Two NEW Delinte Sport Tires (Picture three) $140 OBO. Contact Scott at ..........moparaz at yahoo dot com We live near 67th Ave and Greenway.
  11. As you consider the entire year, and that extra first group lap, recall the surface temps during the cooler months and how that affects performance. Balances things out, I suggest. 🙂 Especially for A-1.😂 Seems to me Parade Laps take more time. Glenda and I attend all three venues…….AMP/Phoenix, Kino/Tucson, and Sierra Vista/New Site. Each has their own way of doing things, and we enjoy the variety. One size does not fit all.
  12. Lance, that’s good info. In the future I’ll just order from Cruz at the Lift Shop, if they can in fact have direct access to our tires. Problem is I have a set already here…….waiting for the current set to be “retired”.
  13. Very sad news, but I know Cruz was always very busy. So better news is that Discount Tire now owns Tire Rack, so they should have access to all the same tires now, and same prices too…..I would think. That said, The Lift Shop should be able to also have better access to our “200 UTQG” tires. That’s a guess.
  14. Thank you for doing that. Might have some new, more receptive people in place there now.👍😎
  15. Hoping that after that article from SCCA, the climate has changed. And maybe not.
  16. Maybe the new “Marana”? I miss that place. When Kim or someone checked on this place months ago, it was very pricey. Maybe now that SCCA is involved, perhaps that might help us get a foot in their “door”. National Tour consideration, maybe too?😎
  17. Well, well. Look what just posted from SCCA. Suitable for Autocross they say. Might I suggest we contact them soon and see what's what? Pricing not mentioned I also noticed. 18. Look on page 247 for a car meeting your specs…… https://cdn.connectsites.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/066/191/2023_Solo_Rule_Bookv4.pdf?1679601089
  19. I’ll test again next month. I’m betting on the pop-up blocker confusing the flow of the system. Opening in a different window isn’t really a pop-up, but in the electronic world maybe it was. I’m good for now. Sorry for the confusion.😎
  20. I’m using an iMac computer, current OS, and using Firefox. I did recently add a new pop-up blocker that asks permission to use, maybe that interfered?
  21. I always enter on my computer, and clicked the same button as before. The was texted a link to add the App on my computer.🫤🤔 Always before it took me to the PP website. How to pay was also very different. Lots of choices that were made earlier and differently before. FYI…..
  22. Well, I registered, but took me a while to figure out what you did to Paypal. Somehow it sent me a link to download an App, instead of just taking me to the Paypal site as before. Anyway, I figured out a workaround to get back to just doing it online. Did you guys do this on purpose? Or by accident?
  23. Thank you Ken and Kim for reporting on your experiences at potential other sites. Especially summer sites. It’s hard to find suitable alternative sites.
